Tax Manager
SUMMARY/OBJECTIVES
The Tax Manager is responsible for the management of client book of business. The management includes communicating with clients to deliver tax compliance services, tax consulting services, and to meet the needs of the clients. The Tax manager is also responsible for the delegation and supervision of work with Tax Associates and Tax Senior Associates. The Tax Manager will work under the direct supervision of multiple Tax Partners.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Regular Daily Functions:
• Master core competencies for level of experience.
• Maintain accurate project information.
• Prepare, monitor, and deliver tax compliance services in a timely and accurate manner.
• Recognize, anticipate, and resolve tax issues; make recommendations.
• Assist in federal and state audits.
• Communicate with partners and clients about the status, timeline, issues, and progress of projects.
• Train, mentor, and provide work direction to tax associates and senior associates.
• Meet productivity and efficiency standards (billable hours and recovery).
• Assist the Senior Management Group with scheduling staff, developing and conducting CPE.
• Assist the Senior Management Group with developing Firm processes for servicing clients with change in tax law.
Business & Practice Development functions:
• Develop and strengthen long-term relationships with client senior management to support their success and to sell/cross-sell products or services.
• Anticipates client needs for new and additional services.
• In consultation with the Senior Management Group, helps to develop solutions for clients and manages the implementation of ideas.
• Actively identifies business development opportunities and directs the development of new business proposals, budgets and fee quotes.
• Participates in professional, business and community organizations.
• Develops and nurtures a network of business referral sources.
• Assists the Partners with scheduling staff, Tax Practice team meetings, and developing CPE.
• Participate in Client Development efforts by actively identifying development opportunities with potential clients; service and relationship enhancement opportunities with established clients; and pursuing marketing leads within community, civic, professional and trade organizations.
• Assist in developing new business proposals, budgets and fee quotes.
TECHNICAL SKILL DEVELOPMENT / REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Individuals at this level generally have a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field and six or more years of experience in federal and state income tax preparation.
The successful candidate will also have:
• A Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business related field and must have completed the credits / coursework as outlined by California Board of Accountancy’s requirements for licensure.
• CPA certification or actively pursuing certification.
• Six or more years of tax experience with at least three years of mid-level compliance work.
• Ability to compose reports and business correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from colleagues and clients when necessary.

USE OF EQUIPMENT
Includes, but is not limited to: computer, standard office software, specific accounting software, scanner, and various technology and equipment.
POSITION INTERACTS WITH
The Tax Manager will have daily contact with Tax Associates, Senior Tax Associates, Partners, and other members of the professional and administrative staff. Direct interaction with clients will be required on a regular basis. Courtesy and respect toward clients and members of the team are expected and required at all times.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION
The key physical requirements of this position include the ability to travel from time to time; lift up to 30 pounds; use of standard office equipment, including personal computers; and movement within a standard office, sometimes with stairs.
WORKING CONDITIONS / TRAVEL
Typical workweek is 40-50 hours. Position requires additional hours when necessary to complete special projects and various engagements. Position also requires additional work hours during busy season. Tax busy seasons are typically February 15 to April 15 and August 15 to October 15.
Travel is minimal and is usually restricted to same day with overnight requirements very infrequently. This is a full time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Some flexibility in hours is available. All Employees must be available during Firm’s primary operating hours of 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and must work 40.0 hours each week to maintain full time status.
