Tax Senior Accountant

 

Reports to: Tax Partners and Managers

 

Job Summary:

 

The Tax Senior is responsible for reviewing individual, trust, partnership, corporate and foreign tax returns, developing and supervising tax staff, preparing more complex tax returns and assisting in client management and practice development activities.

Hours Required: 40 hours per week; hours not to exceed 55 per week during busy season

 

Responsibilities & Duties:

 
  • Know and understand the firm’s policies and procedures
  • Possess a working knowledge of firm technology and time and billing software
  • Implement client engagements from start to finish including planning, executing, directing and completing tax assignments
  • Manage engagement budgets
  • Supervise, train and mentor tax staff and interns on tax projects
  • Review tax returns prepared by staff and make recommendations regarding accuracy and tax savings opportunities
  • Prepare more complex tax returns for individuals, trusts, partnerships and corporations
  • Proactively interact with key client management to gather information, resolve tax related problems and make recommendations for businesses and process improvements
  • Gain understanding of client operations, processes and business objectives
  • Possess an understanding of state and foreign tax issues
  • Perform other job-related duties as necessary and ability to work additional hours as needed

 

Requirements & Qualifications:

 
  • Minimum of two years as a Tax Staff Accountant in a public accounting firm or at least one year experience as a Tax Senior Accountant supervising a team of three or more
  • Strong tax accounting skills with proficiency in US GAAP, tax compliance, corporate consolidated returns, consolidated federal tax returns, partnership returns and combined state tax returns
  • Proficiency in Engagement and Microsoft Office software programs, particularly Excel
  • Ability to supervise staff and lead projects
  • Professionalism, dependability, integrity and trustworthiness combined with a cooperative attitude
  • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to multitask and complete assignments within time constraints and deadlines
  • Dedicated to superior client service
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • CPA certification (active) or working toward if not already obtained

 

Education & Licenses:

 
  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in Accounting
  • CPA certification (active) or working toward if not already obtained
